In January, a mysterious poster appeared on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA, stating, “Jesus Is Coming” while Papa IV glared down on the curious Ghost fans who came to visit the him. We interviewed Ghost’s manager, Kristen Mulderig, and asked how we should prepare for Jesus’s arrival to which she gleefully replied, “just pay attention.” Since then, fans have been on the edge of their seats, speculating and theorizing what was to come. Is this the end of Papa IV? Is Papa IV the Antichrist? Are we getting an album? Is Papa Nihil involved in the new music? With the upcoming tour and releases of Chapter 17: Nap Time & Jesus Talk with Father Jim DeFroque so close to Easter Sunday, it became clear something was around the corner. Early on Easter morning, Jesus came to us in the form of 1. a cover of Genesis’s “Jesus He Knows Me”, 2. a music video for the single, directed by Alex Ross Perry (heed the age-restriction), and 3. the official announcement of Ghost’s newest addition to their collection of cover EPs, Phantomime, right in line with their typical album cycles.
The album art depicts a Terminator-esque Papa, in a pose similar to a sarcophagus and lots of V shapes which begs the question - could this foreshadow the death of the beloved Papa IV and the introduction of Papa V? Only time will tell. The tracklist includes covers of well-known favorites that have fans jittering with excitement across all social platforms: 1. "See No Evil" by Television 2. "Jesus He Knows Me" by Genesis 3. "Hanging Around" by The Stranglers 4. "Phantom Of The Opera" by Iron Maiden (there initially was heavy debate on this one, as Tobias has publicly expressed his affinity for Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical) 5. "We Don't Need Another Hero" by Tina Turner Phantomime is set to release on May 19, 2023 and is available to pre-save and pre-order here!
