After a very eventful year including numerous television appearances, a world tour announcement, and becoming the first trans artist to win a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance - Kim Petras is back with a new album. Petras is known for her bubblegum pop sound, catchy gay club anthems, and dedication to a good theme, as seen in her 2018-2019 Halloween themed mixtapes, Turn Off The Light Vol. 1 & 2. This time around, the new album titled Feed The Beast, is medieval themed, supported by Kim’s recent social posts of herself vaping across New York in a knight’s armor. In contrast to TOTL Vol. 1 & 2 and Slut Pop, the character Kim is playing this era is none other than simply herself. In an interview with WWD Magazine, Petras revealed that after the leak of her now scrapped album, Problematique, Republic Records co-president and A&R Exec, Wendy Goldstein, encouraged Petras to “feed the beast” and keep creating music through the pain and vulnerability she was feeling.
Feed The Beast is comprised of 15 tracks, including familiar favorites such as "Alone" (ft. Nicki Minaj), "Coconuts", "brr", "Unholy" (ft. Sam Smith), and the long-awaited "Hit It From The Back." See the full tracklist below:
My personal top three from this album are "Revelations", "Claws", and "Castle in the Sky", in no particular order. "Revelations" has that intensity that we see on the TOTL Vol. 1 & 2 and a cute little biblical vibe to it. "Claws" is just so fun with backing vocals that explore a new melodic sound for Petras’s repertoire, this one also sounds like it could have found its place on TOTL Vol. 1 or 2. "Castle in the Sky" was a song I’ve been excited about for a while as Petras teased a snippet on TikTok live a few months back. This one sounds like someone made The NeverEnding Story into an 8-bit arcade game then turned that game’s theme song into a club banger. It’s great.
